Fire Department History

The Needville Fire Department was organized in the early 1940's when a large portion of downtown Needville was consumed by fire and there was not an organized department available to fight the conflagration. Once again in the latter part 1946 a large portion of downtown Needville was stricken by fire and in 1947 the Fire Department was reorganized as well as upgrades to the water system in town. So with that reorganization  of the Fire Department is where records have been found on when the Fire department began. In 1997 the Needville fire department celebrated 50 Years of service with the publishing of a commemorative book, which can be viewed at the local County library branch.

There have been six Fire Chiefs since 1947;

Joe Dolezal,

Arnold Witte,

Edgar Kliehege,

David Luedeke,

Troy Svatek,

and current Chief Keith Thumann.

The Needville Fire Department also have been very active in the State Firemen's and Fire Marshal's Association of Texas with members playing active rolls in both  the Men's and Ladies' organizations of the Association and winning the both the Men's and Ladies' Pumper races several years.

Also the Department provides six personnel to serve as guest instructors at the Texas A&M Municipal Fire School held annually the last full week of July in College Station, as well as several students each year attend.

The Needville Fire Department will continue to be History in the making of the Needville area.
